About me

Kyrie Schmit

My name is Kyrie Schmit, LCMHC.  I am the owner and sole therapist (for now!) at Neuro-Abundance Counseling Center.

Here at NACC, we mean it when we say that this is neuroaffirming care for and by the neurodivergent. I was diagnosed with what is now considered to be ADHD, combined in the 4th grade.  Back then, I thought everyone had to go to that trailer and take weird tests, turns out, it was just me...and the confirmation of those tests saying I was neurodivergent started a long journey that led me here.  Since then, I have been learning and living the life of a neurodivergent human; with lots of passion, big emotions, and creativity that can't be beat...but it also came with emotions that felt so big, a sense of feeling alone and misunderstood, times of being burned out, judged, and alienated, and difficulty in channeling my focus on the task at hand.  Simply put.  I know it because I have lived it.

I have also been in treatment and know what it is like to feel supported for your neurodiversity and how much it hurts to be treated by someone who DOES NOT understand how those needs to look differently.

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Santa Clara University

Master or Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lenior-Rhyne University

  • 10+ years of experience working specifically with the autistic and ADHD community both as a therapist, and in other supporting roles.

I have specialized in neuroaffirming outpatient talk therapy in the Asheville area for over 6 years and plan to keep on going!

  • I mostly grew up all over California, but moved to the east coast to pursue graduate school and never left.  In my free time, I love to be creative and make things with my hands, the main avenue being sewing.  I also love to hear about your passions and crafts and all things creativity that you enjoy!  When I am not in the office, you can find me sewing/ crafting and being with my sweet pup, Mable.

I am a neurodivergent first and foremost, but a close second,
I am a neuro-affirming therapist.

See what clients are saying:

  • "Kyrie Schmit gives guidance that is special to each of her clients. Her own neurodivergence makes the advice she gives easier to connect to and helps to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, free of judgment where one feel truly seen and known: and as if Kyrie as always been a part of their lives."

  • "I’ve been to a lot of different therapists, and Kyrie is the only one I formed an emotional connection to. I think that’s because she’s not just empathetic - she meets people where they are, without judgment. I know I’m just some random client, but trust me: Kyrie is on your team."

  • "I'm eternally grateful to have had Kyrie's support and encouragement through all the good and the bad this past year. Words cannot express how thankful I am to have found her!"

  • "Kyrie has worked with our family for over seven years. During this time, she has become an incredible resource and trusted advisor for our whole family. To say that she’s an expert would be the understatement of a lifetime. She is magical with my son who has an anxiety disorder, ADHD and is on the autism spectrum. The rapport they’ve built over time is so strong and he looks forward to every appointment with her. He routinely quotes her to us and often tells people they need to go to counseling and then tells them about Kyrie. A life without Kyrie isn’t one we want to have.”

  • "Sometimes coming to terms with my mental chaos feels like an overwhelming and hopeless task. Talking with Kyrie has helped me develop the strength and compassion to fight again each day. After each session, I feel more grounded and serene."
